Volunteering is changing. Canada needs a new picture.
In the more than two decades since Canada last measured volunteer engagement nationally, the nonprofit sector has transformed. Leaders who support volunteers deserve advocacy, resources, and recognition. This study will help make that happen.
When volunteer leaders are supported and trained, they help elevate thousands of hours of meaningful community contribution annually. Together, we can strengthen the people who lead volunteering and strengthen communities across Canada.
Volunteering is declining
Canada has experienced a dramatic and sustained reduction in volunteer hours over recent years, while demand for volunteer-supported services has only grown.
45% of charities report they don’t have enough volunteers
